View Full Version : My First Cover! Dawny 05-15-2007, 11:34 PM This is my first attempt at a cover, i doubt it's any good, but it was only an experament, and just a little something for me. I've made Disk Labels too. SilentWarrior 05-15-2007, 11:53 PM The first thing I noticed is that the size is wrong. I'm not sure what size case you are creating for but check out the FAQ which outlines the dimensions etc. Dawny 05-15-2007, 11:56 PM Sorry, it was only for a test to see if i could make them, i didn't reall intened it to be used well except by me, and it fit's perfectly in my case. But i did read the rules on here, and have changed it except for the spine, i'll upload the new one later maybe. SilentWarrior 05-16-2007, 12:04 AM That's fine...just letting you know;). We like to give a lot of feedback on here - all constructive though:p Dawny 05-16-2007, 12:08 AM That's not a problem. Feedback is fine :D downed 05-16-2007, 01:25 AM good try dawny.. although it spreads out my screen wide out.. :D nice.. gravital 05-16-2007, 06:40 AM Hello Dawny, I have some more advice on you cover. Apart from the size there are a few other things that need your attention to get this up to snuff. The images look somewhat pixelated. This is mainly seen at text areas and the borders between photos and background. This may be due to a low compression setting. It may even be possible that the original image had thee defects prior to creation. Your cover image looks very blurred. Was it a lowrez image that was scaled up. This may have also happened during a filter process. You may want to rescan the image again. Text, Title, and logos. I am able to see the egde of the pasted image. The white is not a true white. It looks to have a pink tint to it as well as being pixelated. There are a lot of logos and tools that you can access on this site to recreate most of these. In the future, when cutting and pasting an image only select what needs to be shown. This is going to take some practice with various selection tools. Yeah it is more work, but the cover will look all the more better. As for design and placement, I can only see a couple of things that you may want to consider changing. Series 4: you may want to put that on the spine as well. Stacked logos: On the front you have the rating and on top of that the dvd logo. Does the rating really need to be included on the front (or the spine)? Usually you are going to want just 1 on the reverse. If you do want to keep them displayed on the front, drop the dvd logo to the bottom left corner. One last reco. Special features. Are there any? If so you may wan to include these. Well that looks to be it for now.:D As you said this was only a test so, I did not go into detail on how to specifically fix some of the issues. I am not sure how much you all ready know. If you have any ?s let me know and I will further explain. nonini 05-16-2007, 04:35 PM I think gravital gives you some good advise, Dawny. Looking forwards to see your update. Cheers nonini :) ulookingatme 05-16-2007, 05:56 PM Nice cover there tawny  Straightforward and neat, i think gravital sums up what needs to be added for a great cover :) Dawny 05-16-2007, 10:33 PM It all sounds a bit like too much hard work to me guy's.
