Well, since it worked out so well (better than I could have done) when I mentioned needing a gangcase cover for Wild Orchid/2, if gravital or someone is looking to take on another project, there's one I'm not at all looking forward to wrestling with.

I've got most of the Star Trek movies, and will probably grab the last 2, just to round it out. At 10 flicks, this does take up more shelf space than they're worth to me - so I'm going to gangcase the movies and stash the original art and 'extras' discs in the attic.

My gangcases, at standard (170px) width, will handle up to 6 discs. For something that looks like continuity, I was thinkin' of putting the first 6 movies (The Motion Picture, Wrath of Kahn, Search for Spock, Voyage Home, Final Frontier and Undiscovered Country) in one case with artwork of the Enterprise of that generation on the cover, and the final 4 (Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis) in the second case, with artwork of the TNG Enterprise.

So - does someone wanna dazzle me with their brilliance, or offer cool suggestions for basic layout/composition on these? I can do 'em - I just can't do 'em as pretty as some others here, and am not invested in this project so much as I want it done. (Still playing with fades for a Mummy/Return of cover I wanna do my ownself - so I'm not being totally lazy here)

Until there's a requests section, I'm thinking that Helpdesk is as good a place as any to ask for help. If a moderator thinks this belongs elsewhere, I've got no objection to moving it to where it'd be more appropriate.

TIA -

Danno
(who just wasted 3 hours cleaning a scan he could've gotten here... hrmph. Night at the Museum isn't even all that good.... but I'll be posting the thinpak here this afternoon, I think - that skinny spine is gonna be tricksome.)

Hey Danno,
Been a while ehh? I am tempted to do this for you. I really do want to... but I am not sure how much time I can contribute to it. It is a rather lengthy project. On top of that I am on vacation and preparing to deploy straight after. Give me some time to really think about it and I will let ya know.

Thanks for the kind words, folks - I wasn't really expecting anyone to jump to do my bidding, but hope springs eternal, eh?

Hmmm... for cover fronts, I'm thinkin' a shot of the ship, surrounded by a fade-in of the crew (80% opacity seem about right? I'm still playin' with making that look good), and the Star Trek in the font used in the opening credits.

Spines - the Star Trek Collection, the Star Trek:TNG collection - easy call, once gravital (?) made the suggestion on another collection.

The backs - plot synopsis, notable special features on a disc-by-disc basis, with a screenshot from each movie - over a faded ... a faded shot of ..... I'm still waitin' for something to say 'ping' here. I could cheese out and fade the front pick, but that'd be ... um, cheesy.

Kylumi - I'd shudder to think it was bein' done by someone who didn't like the movies - I can imagine the heart I'd put into, say, the Austin Powers collection (NOT my cuppa). Suggestions as I start posting early efforts will be appreciated. (I'm crazy enough to do it - and I doubt I'm the craziest one here, even though I do try hard...;) )

Gravital - thanks for the thought, but I'd hate to think I'd interfered with your vacation at all. Best wishes on deployment - all of the troops have my admiration. Suggestions as you have time will be plenty, my friend.

I've got star trek;TNG collectors edition and would willingly scan the covers fron the 10 films if that would help as Danno suggested using the spines, I'd need help on how to up them (cos I'm new to this) but would be happy to help.

No probs rednemisis always happy to help. Prior to uploading make sure that you are adept in scanning and preparing for upload. There is a scanning tutorial or at least a how to thread somewhere on the site. just do a search for it. After the scan is complete with all the necessary corrections/modifications you are going to wantto go to the cover art gallary and click UPLOAD. From there it's a breeze. Just follow down the line and you'll be doen in no time.

Danno I have uploaded some custom Star Trek Covers that I found...have a search in the gallery. So far I have put up search for spock, nemesis and wrath of kahn. Not exactly the all-in-one solution but may help you come up with something of your own...

Hey Danno, How is this coming along?

Thanks, y'all!

I've got most of the covers - not scanned, but I could if I wanted. None of 'em have a particularly good pic of the Enterprise or a cast assembly, though - I'm probably gonna have to hunt elsewhere for artwork. I've seen the StarTrek font several places, should probably grab that, too.

Many thanks for the offer, rednemesis - if your scanning is better than mine, by all means, upload 'em - I'm sure I'm not the only one who will appreciate it. Do be careful to follow the scanning walkthrough, though - I can't often get my scans up to the standards here. (OTOH, this does make downloading here a joy!) By the same token, thanks for the scans that are there, SilentWarrior - your skills there have always impressed.

How am I doin', gravital? Well, it's well into the 'thinking about how I want this to look' phase, but I haven't made much actual progress. I figure to sit down and do some serious websearch this afternoon to hunt art - mostly, good shots of the two ship styles, and gang pictures of the crews that'll make a nice overlay below them. Not tremendously innovative or original, but it should work - and if I ever migrate my tv episodes from VHS to DVD, I can use the same artwork - 'cause I'm lazy. :biglaugh:

When I have some rough work done, I'll pop it into Work In Progress, and troll for more suggestions - hopefully, later this week.

Can't wait to see what they will look like. I don't think you will have any probs with images. There is a tremendous amount of stuff out there.
