So there I am, buying a movie to round out my Hannibal Lector collection - I've got 'Manhunter', 'Silence of the Lambs', and 'Hannibal', so 'Red Dragon' will finish it off and I can get crankin' on the gang case so they look pretty and thin on my shelf, when the friendly lass at Blockbuster mentions that 'Hannibal Rising' is supposed to be pretty disappointing.

So, I look it up on IMDB, and the reviews are mixed. The flick looks as if it makes up a horrid childhood for poor Hannibal, to explain why he becomes a serial killer - and doesn't quite live up to expectations.

Now, I'm not *that* much of a collector - I don't want 'em all, I just want the good ones. Has anyone seen 'Hannibal Rising'? Should I wait and make a 5-movie gang case, or be satisfied with what I've got, and give this one a pass?

I said its 'iffy' lol

I collect a lot of films but only ones i 'LOVE' :D and will watch over and over again, i dont buy films im not sure of. :)

I love 'Rambo First Blood' but dont care for the other 2 so i only have that one, same with Robocop love the first not to keen on the others etc.

In my mind only 'Manhunter' and 'Silence' were worth owning, the other two were good but not good enough for me to own. You may have to rent it or download *cough cough* and see what you think, its impossible to say what your tastes are and a film i dont like you may love etc :D

Oh, I've got a lot of movies that aren't "I love 'em" - just the other night, I sat down and watched 'Casper' for the first time in years - not by any means a great flick, but it has its charming moments, and watching 'Crash' twice a week would get old pretty quick.

I liked 'Hannibal', even though it went well over the top at the end. I agree that 'Manhunter' is second-best of the group, but I like Hopkins and Norton in 'Red Dragon', and the rest of the cast is pretty good, too - well worth the occasional viewing without a trip to the rental place. It's interesting to watch it right after 'Manhunter', just to see two different visions of the same story. I should probably read the books one of these days.

Downloading? Mostly, I don't trust the quality, so I've never bothered. I've cleaned/waxed an awful lot of used discs, though, and I'm gearing up to convert some of my VHS collection that's never been released on DVD - just 'cause I'm nuts, and can't seem to get rid of a movie I'll want to see again sometime.

If I can't get folks to chime in and say 'it blew, don't bother' or 'it was fair', I guess I'll have to rent it and see how it suits.
