Sony has signed a deal to bring popular Konami videogame METAL GEAR SOLID to the big screen. The project has been in the works for some time and at the 2006 E3 convention creator Hideo Kojima said a film was underway and that a contract had been signed.

Kojima was jumping the gun though as negotiations between Sony and Konami have continued since then with the deal only now becoming final. Michael De Luca (BOOGIE NIGHTS) is producing the film for Sony, which hopes the film can spwan a franchise. The video game franchise has been around since 1987 when it first debuted in Japan and was later adapted for the original Nintendo system. The game saw a comeback almost 10 years later when METAL GEAR SOLID, named after main character Solid Snake, debuted on Playstation One.

There have been two sequels to SOLID and a fourth, "Guns of the Patriots" is due soon. No writer or director is attached to the film yet and it's unclear how much creative control Konami and Kojima will have over the film.

As a fan of the MGS games I am slightly worried that they may totally ruin this movie as they have with many other game-to-movie conversions. Hopefully Konami take the same approach they did with Silent Hill and better it.

Movies based on games always turn out crap IMO. I have only played metal gear solid 2 and enjoyed it. The game itself, although confusing at times has a good story. So the movie may not be that bad.

really did enjoy the game... lets just hope they keep the storys the same.
i also think they should let Kurt Russell be the main person in the movie. it would be funny if he played as "Snake Plissken" :)

Well this one I think is going to be a lot different from the crap we've seen in the past. Since the game makers will be involved in this one they won't let it deviate to where it's not suppose to.


I hope the Movie does well because I hate to see the MGS image ruined.

Like mostly everyone else loved the game but can a film do it justice? This is the part i worry about.

Yeah, the game is really good and if the put alot of effort and money, doing the film I hope it could be as good as the game!

although i purchased the games i never really got into em...............but a movie sounds cool.............i would be interested in seeing that:D

i dont know, im a big fan of the games but you need to be a little revelant to the character i mean like-ness wise

I don't think it's even in production yet and there's a lot of talk about it so they better make it good!:cool: I love the game...part 3 was like a bond movie:biglaugh:
