Well,
Looks like those creative juices started flowing. This is an extreme rough/initial/WIP. I am not sure if this is the style you are looking for. The movies are a little more hotter than the delicate cover style. It is just a thought more or less. I am trying to approach this from a feminine point of view. All the images are really low resolution taken off of various sites after googling the titles. It is amazing how little is actually out there. I am hoping that you still have the ability to scan some covers and inserts. Maybe provide some screen captures that you want in the cover and or special features, specifications, and the like. Let me know what you want to do. To everyone else... please let me know your thoughts. Even though this is in the early stages of development I would still like to hear some feedback.:D

Great start there gravital. It does have that delicate touch, and the colors do make for a very feminine feel. I can imagine that the artwork is very limited for this one.

Thanks SW It was what I am going for and yes limited is the word for this material. I am depending on Danno to provide all that he can.

Well,
Looks like those creative juices started flowing.

Yes, they certainly did - that looks great!

All the images are really low resolution taken off of various sites after googling the titles. It is amazing how little is actually out there. I am hoping that you still have the ability to scan some covers and inserts.

I've got clean art on the first movie - but should run a fresh scan at 600dpi so you have *some* quality to work with. The second movie was picked up in a tyvek envelope at a garage sale for $1 - and I've never seen any cover art for it anywhere. I've got the 'Blue Movie Blue' title art at 853x480, and can cap anything you'd like to see, but my screencap toy outputs at original size - 720x480 - not great resolution.

Maybe provide some screen captures that you want in the cover and or special features, specifications, and the like. Let me know what you want to do.

It's your project - I'm just the leech who's gonna scarf it up as soon as it's done. :D I can post what I've got for specs - there's almost no SpecFeatures on WO2, so I'll probably have to get wordy in the plot outline to give you something to work with at all.

Should we move this to PM, or should I upload the stuff into this thread, so people can see what dreck you've got to start with?

Many many thanks!

Dump what you can here as far as artwork, scans, and specs. After I grab it I'll let you know and you can edit the post it was attached to and remove it. No need in cluttering up valuable space. I can get synopsis' off of the internet if needs be. As for the screen captures let me have some stuff you would like to see on the cover and I will work some magic.

Scanned at 600dpi, cropped and rotated - otherwise, not messed with. Lemme know when you have it, and I (or a moderator if they get here first) can delete it to not hog disc space.

Here's the first 5 screen caps - just as captured.

The last (actually first, in the movie) cap of the actress, the menu, and an alternate title frame - and I have no idea of where I picked that up.

I think that you may have trouble finding any plot outline for WO 2 longer than a sentence or two - this movie really sank like a rock - but you're the boss on this one.

Lemme see - it's in 16:9 widescreen, for features it's got scene selection, subtitles (English, French, Spanish), Dolby 2.1 audio, and it runs 1:47:38.

I'll admit - I've got a qualm or two here. Is this cover gonna make the rest of that shelf look tawdry?

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this stuff....

Thanks Kylumi. Comments are appreciated as always!!!
Danno, I got the images you may remove them. Thanks. As far as when this will be done? I will toy with it tonight. However, tomorrow I have a jump (AIRBORNE). After, I have a 24hr Charge of quarters shift. Depending on how slow of a night/day it is I may be able to work on it for a few hrs. then. I have a really busy schedule. I would say you should see an complete or nearly complete project NLT Wednesday night.

To many for my taste. I lost specific count. I think night times are around 18-20.

Danno

Yikes - hope the jump goes well. As far as timetable goes - I've got about 200 movies to create covers for yet, so don't bust yer butt to get this one in quick - the movies will wait, and I'm in no hurry.

I'll go trim out the scans - y'all have a good night!

Cool, I will take my time with it. If you liked the initial version you are going to love what it is lookin like now. I am not going to post it (it'll be a surprise!!!) until it is done. Then I will worry about feedback, comments and changes. I just get into a grove and run with it. This stuff is so awesome!

Hey Danno! I did get some more work done on this for ya. I think I would have had a more finished product, but I was getting that achy antzy feeling that warrants you from sittin' still. I am pretty sure it was due to jumping. So, there I was... The jet was boppin up and down for 6 min straight everybody was falling all over the place, those that were not were straining to keep standing up. Green Light GOOOOO. #11 Jumper left door (that's me) gets out, chute opens, I plummet, hit the ground, complete a Paratrooper landing fall (PLF), have to modify it by flipping my body as my back hits (to avoid getting caught in my suspension lines), dragged by my chute for approx. 30 feet, pop my riser, tuck it all up, and run to the assembly area. Just thought I would share with you.
Oh yeah, the cover. Hey let me know if this is workin for you. If it is not let me know so that I can change or restart, however you see fit. I do really well at taking criticism, so if it is not what you want let me know and I will work it some more. Otherwise, I will keep pluggin away... after some sleep. I am still awake from my CQ shift. Hey I need a little break every once and a while.

Wow! For excitement, I went to the downstairs room of a bar and hung out with about 100 people, most of whom I've known for years - got lots of hugs and some fanny pats in, and got groped by a babe who'd moved out of town some years ago in a surprise visit - but nothin' to get my heart rate up like you got. OTOH, I didn't get any bruises, either..... but it does keep me busy every last Wednesday of the month, or I'd have been back in here earlier.

Oh yeah, the cover. Hey let me know if this is workin for you. If it is not let me know so that I can change or restart, however you see fit. Looks wonderful - not at all what I'd have come up with, but doubtless better. I'd lose the 'disc 1, disc 2' off of the back - it seems like redundant information, just as I wouldn't bother to mention that the WO1 is a two-sider, because I mostly ignore the fullscreen side.

You picked my favorite of the screencaps for WO2 - and the fadein looks like what I keep trying (and failing) to achieve - I'm really impressed.

Oh - one more minor request. My eyes are old and tired - does the text on the back have more contrast than the preview seems to? It probably does, but I've already got too many (cruddy) covers that I've gotta strain my eyes to read (some of them, original art... feh!)

Okay - make that two (maybe) minor points - but that's some remarkably pretty work for some remarkably mundane movies. I'm looking forward to seeing (and using) it when you're happy with it.

Lemme know if/when I can do you a favor, gravital - I owe you a big one.

Conducted a few minor changes in color and placement, added in all the info I could find. I finished it up before I saw the requests. So... The contrast on the text is not an issue. I can drag the opacity of the drop shadow up. The disc 1 and 2 are not issues either. Simple as "select / delete and reverse cover element distrubution" I have provided both 14 and 7mm spine formats. You never know... You my decide to go with the larger, and it is just something that I do. I like to provide! I think that femine approach worked well. It was just an assumption on like movies, 9.5 weeks aka "chick porn".
I will attach the 7mm full jpeg so you can see if the text is seen or unseen by thy eyes.
Oh... and 1 other thing you owe me NOTHING It was my pleasure!:D

Hey Danno,
You had mentioned you had been trying the gradual fade with no luck. There are a ton-o-ways to do it. For this specific occasion this is how it went.
1.You take your image layer figure out where you want the effect to happen.
2. create another layer.
3. draw a selcetion box on the lower portion of the image while staying within the new layer. Here you can either fill with gradient or select the gradient tool from the tool box. Keep the default settings of black and white, and apply the gradient.
4. from there click on Select, color range. Change selection preview to grayscale, use the eyedropper to take a sample of black from the image. Adjust the "fuzziness" and hit OK. At this point you have a selection that will gradually go from everything to nothing.
5. Hide the gradient Layer.
6. Select back on the image layer to be manipulated.
7. Hit delete and bingo, bango, bongo, you are done.
SIDE NOTES: You may have to invert the selction if it winds up deleting the wrong thing. You may have to transform the selection to go larger or smaller. This can be done through the Select, transform selection.
Like I said there are a ton of ways to do it, this is the one I chose.

Um... um... gravital - this makes most of the originals on my shelf look tawdry - it's wonderful!

Before I saw this, I grabbed the 7mm spine from above - and was darn happy with that, too.

You do remarkable work - if you're sitting around, looking for projects between jumps, I'd be happy to point you toward some of the toughies I've got in my inbasket.

If the updated thinpak isn't in the files section, feel free to upload at your convenience - I can't think of a single way to improve any of it. (My daughter and her buddy think it's so pretty, they wanna see the movies. Poor downtrodden tykes.... :p )

I'll cap your advice on gradients and play with it before I respond - while I had plenty of RAM to keep Firefox up and run Paintshop last week, these mondo 600px scans really dog my system down if I try running anything else while I play with 'em.

It's looking to be a busy night - hungries to feed, popcorn and movies to pick/watch, giggles to ignore - but I'll be back tomorrow to enjoy the peace & quiet.

Again - many thanks for a job very well done!

Danno
Grateful but harried...
