View Full Version : Astro Boy 2009 Blu-Ray
metamate 08-26-2008, 04:08 AM I know it's not out yet but I thought that such a cool movie deserved a cool cover. Now whether or not it is cool is a matter I leave for you all. I'm getting more confident with Photoshop. And all because I found this site. Woo-hoo!

I'll post on the label soon as.
batboysmatboy 08-26-2008, 04:49 AM Always had a soft spot for Astroboy. Interesting look. I like it.
RE5PECT 08-26-2008, 02:34 PM I don't think that the back work with all these pictures looking the same.. Try to find some different pictures that "tells about" the movie...
metamate 08-26-2008, 04:54 PM I can't change them. They are literally the only images that exist for the film.
JollyRoger 08-26-2008, 08:24 PM You could just cut the big boy out - and put him on another background... ;)
metamate 08-26-2008, 10:30 PM Have an idea. Leave me with it me for a while.
SilentWarrior 08-27-2008, 02:04 AM I'm not too keen on the back images spread out everywhere. The Astroboy TT is low quality on the front as well.
metamate 08-27-2008, 03:14 AM I'm redoing the TT right now. As for the images, hmm. If I had better images I could do better. I'll show an image of what I'm going to do with this in a while.
EDIT: Here's the revised image
Bisky 08-29-2008, 01:41 PM Not fussed on the back at all mate, I`d maybe try just a plain blurred background like the front, plus I`d leave out the other 2 pics, just the original pic you had looks really good.
Also somethin needs to be done with the screenshots, blended or something.
look forward to seein what you do with it.
cheers
SilentWarrior 08-29-2008, 04:15 PM The TT on the front still looks lower quality. Maybe try making you own out of a sci-fi font. Doesn't need to look 100% the same, just as long as its in theme.
The credits are difficult to read, so perhaps a colour change will work here. I'd also recommend lowering the opacity on the spec box to blend it in some more but overall its shaping up nicely.
ulookingatme 08-29-2008, 06:14 PM Turning into a nice cover mate
I would also try and sort the screenshots out, the placement seems wrong to me sitting partially over his face.
Also the edges are very hard and squared off whereas the rest of the cover has a 'rounded' feel to it.
Maybe use the 1st pic in the middle and blend them together and soften the edges a little or use a border to capture them in :)

Taken on board what you said. Here is the lo-res version of the update
batboysmatboy 08-31-2008, 08:42 AM Like what you have done, not a fan of the TT. Is this what they are using for the movie? Like the other TT better

The original TT is too fuzzy. Other than recreating it in Illustrator which I don't have, not much I can do, I'm afraid...:dunno:
Bisky 08-31-2008, 10:55 AM I like it alot mate, the back is alot better, just a few suggestions :
1) I`d nudge the credits over to the right so that there not covering the main pic.
2) Put a frame round or blend the screens, as they look very square at the mo.
3) try blending the back into the spine so that the front and the spine dont look cut off.
49 try a different font for TT, not fussed on that one either.
other than that mate, it looks spot on, look forarwd to seein this finished.
cheers
batboysmatboy 08-31-2008, 04:48 PM I read in a post that the Astro Boy font is similar to the crillee font. If you want to use crillee, PM me and I will send you back a couple of links to free font sites that have it
Bisky 08-31-2008, 05:25 PM this might help

Thanks for that as well. I have the same resolution poster from the forum gallery.
batboysmatboy 08-31-2008, 08:49 PM Your welcome. I can't wait for your next update. I watched Astro Boy cartoons as a kid, so this cover brings back memories.
ulookingatme 08-31-2008, 08:56 PM Have found some images, they may be of some use with a little manipulation
sleepyhead 08-31-2008, 09:29 PM Have uploaded a poster I found to the gallery - cover is improving steadily but do try and get hold of decent material to work with - it makes all the difference.
Keep going m8 just don't try and rush to finish too quickly.

The centre image I had in a previous version. I think I'll use these for the label for Astro.
metamate 09-01-2008, 11:52 AM Here's the newest version. I've revised the spec box with some reduction of opacity and moved the credits. And I finally found a font I was happy with.
batboysmatboy 09-01-2008, 05:58 PM The way you posted this time it is hard to see (only get a small image when I click it this time, not like the last three. At least on my browser), however what I could see I liked. Keep up the good work
metamate 09-01-2008, 10:11 PM Here's the hi-res image:
batboysmatboy 09-01-2008, 11:14 PM Thanks. I like the font you used on "Astro Boy". Really nice look overall
Bisky 09-02-2008, 12:05 AM Somethin not quite right about the TT on the spine mate, seems a bit blurry.
and maybe a stupi question but is there meant to be a question mark in the middle of te tagline?
lookin good mate.
batboysmatboy 09-02-2008, 01:03 AM It was a typo (he hit the wrong key). It's supposed to be they're not they?re. Good catch Bisky

I found out what was wrong with the blurriness.
God Damn it! I created the Astro Boy cover on Photoshop 7 and then upgraded to CS and for some reason CS no longer recognises the apostrophe. Fixed now.
dragonbane 09-02-2008, 02:32 AM only 2 things i can pic out and there only minor things,
1: try to blend your screencaps better
and 2: try adding a slight inner shadow on your TT bring out the detail a bit more.
other than that i like what i see
