Heya peeps,

I'm new here and this is my fist post, but I hope it's okay that I skip the intro and get straight down to business... Was told that if I had any questions or needed anything I wasn't able to find elsewhere, this would be the place to ask about it :)

Anyhoo, as the title already shows I'm in serious need of a .cdr to .eps file converter. Have some logos that I'd really like to use in Photoshop, but as you well know I can't open .cdr files in Photoshop. Was told to install Corel Draw and export the files from there to .eps format. That did seem to work, but every time I try to open them in Photoshop I get the same error; "The font you are trying to open is not supported, bla bla bla". And that's pretty much that.

So any help, suggestions or whatever would be much appreciated...

Regards

I have CorelDraw, if you can send me them I will try for you.

I'll PM you my email address.

Well, thank you. But instead of you catching me a fish, I'd much rather learn how to fish myself... ;)

I don't know of any converter that will do it. Best thing to do is what slipmeister has offered, or open the file with illustrator and save it as an .eps.

Illustrator ... Hadn't even thought of that. Will try that, thanks :)

I would find out how to do it then give instructions for others to follow. I wouldn't just convert them then say nothing.

My offer stands if you have any problems.

Well I loaded a .cdr file into CorelDRAW X3, exported it as a .eps, opened the .eps in CS3 no problems at all.

Still can't get it to work with Corel Draw. Haven't tried the X3 version though, but in any case it works just fine with Adobe Illustrator. Again, thanks for the tip! :)

Glad you got it sorted.

Also work great with CorelDRAW X3. Actually the vector seem to a better quality when coverted to .eps from CDX3 instead of Illustrator CS3... Had the full CorelDRAW 10 installed earlier and for some odd reason it didn't work with that version.

In any case... I got my problem solved, so I'm happy :)

EDIT: Oh, and in reply to #6, you are absolutely right. Not that it's all that complicated though.

1. Open the .cdr file in either CorelDRAW X3 or Illustrator CS3, then go to "File" in the main menu and press "Export".
2. Choose "EPS - Encapsulated PostScript" in the "Save as type" drop down panel and press the "Export" button.
3. In this next window I recommend saving it with a "Transparent background" as it's easier to work with later. Also you can choose a higher DPI if you feel like it.
4. Now just press the "OK " button and you're good to go.
