This is my WIP. I got most of it done but I need to find an image for the background on the back. We have the front image as green for a reason. In the last few minutes of the film, before nuclear war broke out, the ozone in Tokyo dissolved and due to some color refraction the sky turned green and mirrored the city in the sky.

HISTORY OF THE FILM AND THE VHS RELEASE IN THE US

Last Days of Planet Earth (AKA PROPHECIES OF NOSTRADAMUS) was banned in Japan due to some scenes being a little inappropriate since it was like 20 years after WWII so it's a rarity since in the US PARAMOUNT released the UPA TV Edit on VHS and LaserDisc and luckily I found it on eBay and I got a VHS copy and I scanned the front of it. The back, like on all Paramount's Japanese released films in the early to mid 90's had the same back design to make it look like the Japanese flag. I hated that design. Well, the film wasn't rated by the MPAA but since it's was released as a TV movie here stateside I think a PG-13 rating would suit it.

Thanks, I decided to a regular and thin pack cover since I need to go out and buy some empty cases and the store has both so I'm doing both since I'm undecided on which type of case.

Released stateside in 1980 on TV by UPA. Released on VHS & LaserDisc by Paramount in 1995. Last known US Television Airing in 1999 on AMC.

Oddly a bootleg got out of the full Japanese version along with the International Cut, there's a site that sells it in a box set for like $30.

The US Edit is a great example on how not to edit a film. It seemed rushed, especially near the end of the film. The music was clearly not edited properly.

Okay. I think my work is done. Here are some stills from my VHS/DVD conversion. The first image with the mutated human with the snake in his mouth is a prime example of bad editing on UPA's behalf. It's the only frame you see of it in the whole entire movie. It's a brief flash and then it cuts to the next scene.
