What is the best way to apply labels to DVDs? Should I buy some sort of applicator or try to use a steady hand?

Hello MaChu5000...............good question and one that i have written about many times.

In my opinion you should never stick any labels on DVD's (many people will say "why not it works for me") Short term it may be fine but, long term consequences will have an adverse affect not only on the DVD but also on the hardware itself........Every DVD consists of two very thin polycarbonate discs, called substrates, that are bonded together and sealed to form a completed disc. This construction allows for data to be stored in three different formats, called DVD-5, DVD-9, and DVD-10.
Obviously, this construction manufactures a highly technical product which is finely balanced...............and not intended to have a sticky paper label slapped on it. Why, labels are available for DVD's is a another whole story in itself.

When, playing a DVD which has a sticky label adhering to it..............the hardware and spin revolution of the disc build up a certain amount of heat which in turns liquefies small globules of sticky glue which hold the label in place..............these globules are then turned into an aerosol which sprays nicely around the internals of your hardware crappin everything up!

The best way of producing labels for DVD...........is to print directly to them.............again another story in itself!

Does this help you at all buddy?

It is very easy to print to disc and a lot quicker than fiddling with labels........Yep ................. and printable discs of course............an Epson R340 printer will do the job nicely both discs and printer are very cheap to buy now:thumbup:

:whs:Kylumi summed it up for you. I have tried stick-on labels out of curiosity, to test how they work. At first they seem fine although they eventually start to peel off usually while spinning in the DVD player (make a horrible sound). Others say that a stick-on label adds a slight weight to the disc which can affect the player over time. If you want labels, I recommend printing them directly to the disc.
