mrdex 12-20-2007, 02:13 PM They are all awesome....great work guys!!! I will go with # 5.
Zorbutsushu 12-20-2007, 04:13 PM All very good but number 5 stands out as the best.
gravital 12-20-2007, 10:48 PM Warning this may upset you so be prepared to take a little criticism. It is part of displaying your artwork. This is not meant to single anyone out rather give you an idea of how others may percieve your work.
I think these are all good covers but here is the way I see it at first glance.
I will PM all of you on more refined feedback at the end of the comp. For those of you new to the comp It will be down to the actual pixel resolution.
Entry 1 Its a wonderful life.
Just looks too pieced together. It is difficult to see a style in the entry. It all looks different. There are multiple font styles, Images and artwork and ornamentation. It just does not seem to come together.
Entry 2 The Nightmare before Christmas v1.
Great film mainly due to the artistic style. By replacing it with an alternative style of art The designer has taken away from the film. While the candycane pole and snow sign on the back is a good idea it jut seems outta place in contrast to the rest of the darkness of the cover. It may have looked better if the back was a christmas scene and the front was a Halloween town. I think that would have been a phenominal look. I think the biggest success of the entry is the label. However, looking at what is working in it I notice that the stars/snow on the label sky are missing from the cover.
Entry 3 The Nightmare before Christmas v2.
This approach I believe is better than the first. However it has its issues as well. First for me to notice was the huge empty mass on the front. This taken up by the Moon. While yes the space has been filled the balance is off because the lower portion of the cover is congested with detail. I think that the end caps, TT and centralized DVD logo take away from the cover. The encaps just seem unnecessary. The TT looks misplaced and the DVD logo stands out too much. A centralized method can work here but the color needs to be taken down some so that ot does not stand out so much. After all it is only a DVD logo and holds minimal importance. I think the back is where the success is the best. screen caps and borders all work very nicely. I think the label character color tint of blue seems a little off.
My main problem with this cover is that there is not enough of a Christmas presence in it. It looks more Halloweeny than X-mas and X-mas was the focus.
Entry 4 Fred Claus.
This entry I think just looks odd. From what I can tell there was not a whole lot of originality in it. The front is poster art with a border around it. The spine I think would work better if the lights had a glow to them as if they were placed on a roof and lit up.I am not fond of the polaroids for screen cap borders. I think that a more suitable christmas border could have been used. Candy canes, wreathes, etc. I am not sure why the screen caps have managed to find there way on to the label.
Entry 5 The Nativity.
I think this is one of the best entries but my only issue with it is that it looks to retailish. The back pics look amazing on their own but I think the blen needs soem work. The mid images look like cardboard cut outs instead of a collage of imagery.
Entry 6 The Muppet Christmas Carol.
This one gets my vote. To me that is strange because I can't stand the Muppets. However, This is teh best entry in my eyes. It is all pieced to gether terrifically the red is perfect for pushing the few images out of the cover but not making them look out of place. I think the sparkles have manages to pull it all together by adding in hints of flair. However, the weakest point is in the label. I beleieve there are too many sparkles that are tring to compensate for a lack of images.
Entry 7 A Christmas Story.
The main thing that struck me about this was the poor color choice in the wrapping paper. This green looks like something you would find in a soup more than something under a tree. I like the idea behind it but it just looks too flat to pull of the torn open present look that it is trying to achieve. I think that if some shadow and wrinkles where placed in the paper with maybe a overlapping curl here or ther it would look better. While the label does fit the movies I do not think that it matches the cover well. Apart from the BBs and the BB gun the design on the cover is not present on the label.
stryker427 12-21-2007, 02:20 AM All the covers looked good but I went with #3.
sleepyhead 12-21-2007, 03:49 AM #5 got my vote for the combination of a good cover and label
tightline_69 12-21-2007, 06:13 AM I had to read back through Gravitals breakdown of the covers a few times as well as review all the covers to see what he was getting at. I myself am not a designer but I did notice alot of differences in all the covers. All of them are far better than anything I myself could design or scan, but I have to vote for entry #6 as everything about it seems to blend so nicely. Congradulations to all enteries and Merry Christmas to one and all members of Fuzion.
da-bearz 12-21-2007, 05:23 PM Gosh, what a line-up! I have to go with #6 even though I'm not a big Muppets fan. I wanted to vote for #7 cause I love that movie. But, as far as the over all best, I have to go with #6.
graceland 12-21-2007, 08:46 PM entry 6 gets my vote as it stands out more than rest ,but congrats to all who entered

The M&M Guy 12-23-2007, 08:15 PM I voted for # 7,I liked the gift idea.the paper color didn't seem out of place to me though.maybe because I was born in the 50's and we didn't have the fancy paper like we have today. Thanks to all,You did a great job.
