I just finally got around towards using them and .eps won't work on the GIMP.

If you want to open .eps files with GIMP download ghostscript (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1897&package_id=1845&release_id=321615). Install it and then go the ghostscript directory and copy all the exe files. The simply paste them into the GIMP
directory. Restart Gimp and try to load an eps file.

Haven't tested this but apparently it works.
