Just wondering what everyone here uses as far as paper and printers go. I'm assuming most use photo paper, but I'm curious as to what the best type of printer is for DVD covers. Is it even possible to come close to studio quality printouts?
I was using a Canon i320 printer but could not get rid of vertical lines, and was having alot of problems with it so I switched over to my old Epson 670 which I havent used in years and found the printouts look 10x better; however, nowhere near perfect. The text looks pretty sharp but images look dotted and anything red looks pretty horrible. Should I upgrade to a better printer or is there a setting I'm overlooking?
I scanned one of my printouts so you can see what I'm talking about. Notice how dotted the reds look.

The best thing to do is to play around with the settings and see what is the best qual. I use standard paper that has a little extra weight to it. It being a little thicker, the ink holds in place better and does not spread to areas that it should not be in. The images are crisp and clear When in the case and behind the plastic cover you can not tell the difference. I would not imagine anybody uses photo paper. after time it would stick to the plastic and get destroyed.

Whatever you do don't use glossy paper, it will stick to the plastic. I recommend either matte or semi-gloss, mid-range g/m2. I am not familiar with those printers however the scan of the printout looks bad. Perhaps the ink heads are blocked, as this can sometimes produce a similar result I have found. Try printing on higher quality settings and different paper to see if that helps.

I like matte photo paper with the highest white or brightness rating you can get something like 97 or above. Most everything else has been said and I agree with all that too as it is somewhat of a trial and error process with each printer/setup ;)

well I gave up on the Epson and messed with the Canon for awhile and now it's printing covers better than it ever has. Most of the covers I printed on it before were low res, so I changed the setting to high quality and tried printing high res covers and it looks close to studio quality now. Thanks for the advice.
Also, I think the paper I've been using must be semi gloss because most of my prnt outs were on it and they never have gotten stuck to the case.

Glad to hear that all is well.
