They may seem like a simple little pic that gives you some individuality. However, I bet you chose it or created it for a specific reason. It may even have a story behind it. I am just trying to get to know ya all a little better. The best way to start this is to explain mine and hopefully you all will play along.
So, what is it. Yes it looks like a hand. To get more specific it is a gauntlet. It was a project I did in college. I think it was intermediate 3D modeling. I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to build. I had done a few projects before and they were massive 3D models that were extemely complex. I remeber having to wait for a bout 15 mins for the damn things to load. So, I decided that I wanted to make something more simple. After a few minutes of sketching I came up with a rough draft of the gauntlet. It took me about 6 hours to build in Maya. That is actually quite quick. I was surprised that it turned out so well. Creating the materials and textures took considerably longer. I think that was about a day or 2. After rendering it out a few times I fell in love with it. It holds my initials for my portfolio, has been placed on my resume, put on business cards, etc. The best thing about it is that, it being a 3D model I can get different angles, move it around, have portions of it glow, and yes even animate it. I wound up adding the bones for animating it in one of the 3D animation classes. I have decided to use this as my avatar because it has been something that I have had for quite some time, I can change the way it looks at the drop of a hat, and give it some life through animating it. So, why a gauntlet? I dunno, it really has no meaning to me other than I found hands difficult to draw at one point and after figuring them out it was easy and I liked drawing them ever since.
Well, that is my avatar story. Anybody else have anything. There are some unique ones here and I would love to know whats up with em.
