They may seem like a simple little pic that gives you some individuality. However, I bet you chose it or created it for a specific reason. It may even have a story behind it. I am just trying to get to know ya all a little better. The best way to start this is to explain mine and hopefully you all will play along.

So, what is it. Yes it looks like a hand. To get more specific it is a gauntlet. It was a project I did in college. I think it was intermediate 3D modeling. I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to build. I had done a few projects before and they were massive 3D models that were extemely complex. I remeber having to wait for a bout 15 mins for the damn things to load. So, I decided that I wanted to make something more simple. After a few minutes of sketching I came up with a rough draft of the gauntlet. It took me about 6 hours to build in Maya. That is actually quite quick. I was surprised that it turned out so well. Creating the materials and textures took considerably longer. I think that was about a day or 2. After rendering it out a few times I fell in love with it. It holds my initials for my portfolio, has been placed on my resume, put on business cards, etc. The best thing about it is that, it being a 3D model I can get different angles, move it around, have portions of it glow, and yes even animate it. I wound up adding the bones for animating it in one of the 3D animation classes. I have decided to use this as my avatar because it has been something that I have had for quite some time, I can change the way it looks at the drop of a hat, and give it some life through animating it. So, why a gauntlet? I dunno, it really has no meaning to me other than I found hands difficult to draw at one point and after figuring them out it was easy and I liked drawing them ever since.

Well, that is my avatar story. Anybody else have anything. There are some unique ones here and I would love to know whats up with em.:thumbup:

Mine is a scaled down version of the Shaun of the Dead movie wallpaper. My name is Shaun, so when the movie came out I just thought it was cool. It's so hard to find anything that actually spells my name correctly. Besides the movie is awesome. I wish my story was as meaningful as gravital's but I'm not that creative. :( I like the topic of the thread. Let's keep it going guys.

@gravital:

Whenever I see a guantlet now I automatically think 'gravital' :lol: though I don't see many off them. Great to hear your story and it's true; avatars are like our identity's on here.

@SOTD

I thought your name was shaun and now I know I'm right:biglaugh:

My avatar is an eye and symbolic of fuzion. I will animate it in the future so don't be freaked out when it appears to be looking around one day:biglaugh:.

Thx for a real interesting story, G - and nice to hear from You other guys! :goodpost:
My story is not that long. Or that interesting, really.

I use the ol' skull 'n bones as my symbol - Guess You can figure out why. I also took my name from them. At first I simply used a flag (1st pic attached.) Later I changed it (pic2) - From that point I was happy about the logo - but thought it needed something extra. Therefore I made my glass button with the logo in. And that's that really .... :D

well... because I enjoy watching horror movies I was gonna use a zombie or skull for my avatar and while I was searching for one I came across a funky lookin' skull and crossbones, so for a while I used that. But my desktop wallpaper for years has been the 'Death Skateboards' logo (a UK skateboard company) which consists of the toxic warning sign (skull and crossbones) so.... I changed the background, put some blood on it and it will now be my avatar, as well as my desktop backgroud:thumbup:

Mine is kinda punky because i was into the punk rock scene in the uK in the early 70's.Was lucky enough to see live bands such as The clash, The Sex Pistols,Generation X,etc.That era has had a real profound effect on my whole life up to now.Punk was an attitude, i still have that attitude today,even though i'm nearly 45!I won't conform, i do what i wanna do when i wanna do it, am rebellious, and hate living by rules.Those early Punk days were the best of my life, and i'll never forget them.......BTW, The Pistols are re-forming for a 30th anniversary gig, with their original line-up of Johnny Rotten,Steve Jones,Paul Cook,Glenn Matlock...needless to say, i'll be there for that!

Very cool creation Gravital. I at first had Ren&Stimpy as most times I am a goof off but I do have a serious side. I changed however because I a huge Marvel comics fan, I like Ghostrider, and skulls in general. Now if I coulda found a good pic of the Cryptkeeper from Tales From The Crypt. I would have used that as I like him as well

There are a ton of Cryptkeeper images out there. This is someones 3D interpretation that I found. Just search for images on google.

I am not a hockey fan and still linked you with the sport flyers2thecup.
