Pretty much any photo editing software can do the trick. I use photoshop. Within it you have a clone tool. It essentially works by taking color/pixels from somewhere else and allowing you to place them over a portion to be covered up. If it is a solid color you can use a selection tool and fill in with whatever color you like. However, for photolike images you are going to want that clone tool. If you are new to it, no need to worry. It takes a little practice but it is fairly easy to use and all the info you need on how to set it up and use it will be included in the help files.

try adjusting the brush size. If it is dumping an entire image it sounds like it is too large. Also, use the Alt key to select the source. Good luck!!

johnmac, have you adjusted both the brush hardness and opacity? Both of these are what allow you to feather the clone tool so it does not have that sharp line where the clone image and orig image meet. It is a fine line between fading it in and bluring the clone so it takes some practice.
