Remind me to steer clear! gravital 07-15-2007, 09:59 PM Reminds me of a few winters I spent at home in Chicago. Ahhhh I love that place. J0nn0 07-16-2007, 07:39 AM Jesus, where was that taken? Remind me to steer clear! No idea mate, but i bet it would freeze the balls off a brass monkey! SilentWarrior 07-16-2007, 08:40 AM :omg:never seen anything like it. Doesn't get that cold here in Aus:D J0nn0 07-16-2007, 08:43 AM I was wondering what, if any, damage it would do to your vehicle....? I mean, to put down that much ice, it must be seriously cold. ulookingatme 07-17-2007, 06:42 PM I'm surprised the Sea/Ocean in that pic hasnt frozen lol gravital 07-17-2007, 10:54 PM J0nn0 and ULAM, To clarify... damage to vehicle, the cold nor the ice does any damage. If you are in an area that has this weather on a regular basis then the only damage that would occur would be from the salt put down. It eats away at finishes and rusts the vehicle out rather quickly. As far a surrprise at the sea/ocean not being frozen... My guess is that it is a lakefront. The reason as to why the water is not frozen is that the wind pulls the water up and decreases the temperature enough for it to freeze on surfaces. I would also say that it was probably raining at some point. That amount of ice is unusual for comming off a lake. The most I have seen is an inch/2.5 cm. That stuff looks really thick and had to have been built up over some time in conjuction with rain. Kinda like an icicle, but a little more side ways. kylumi 07-19-2007, 05:37 PM OK...........guys I have seen it like this (many times).............you can step outside throw a cup of water in the air and it becomes ice before it hits the ground! Now picture this Clemens Forell a German prisoner of war escaped from a Siberian labour camp............in such weather.............he was on his own with virtually no supplies and a home made compass. After already suffering 3 years of Russian brutality he had such presence of mind and spirit that he was able to cover 8000 miles across landscapes similar to the one above, and return to his family in Germany. His actual escape route took him 3 years ..................and HE FINALLY MADE HOME IN 1952! this is a well known story in the ranks........and, it inspires you when feel like you are freezing to death in some godforsaken place but, can still manage to find hot coffee from someplace. With guys like Forell serving in the German army it make you wonder how we ever managed to win any wars against em! Gravital would enjoy the book..................its a truly amazing account of one mans perseverance against immeasurable odds:omg: |
