View Full Version : Do You Think I Got Ripped Off?
LONFAN 06-12-2007, 01:08 PM Greetings
Well for Fathers Day My Honey is giving me the Complete Three Seasons of the Original Star Trek! that is Fantastic I've been wanting these forever,But here's the problem: She got them off of e-Scam and you see I used to build these Resin Model Kits,These Kits were little Replicas of Charecters from Films such as Planet Of The Apes or Frankenstien or Pinhead from the Hellraiser Series. So anyhoo Alot of the other folks who built these Kits used to tell Horror stories of these Jerks from mostly Thiland who would Invest in ONE original Kit then use it to make "Recasts" or "Bootlegs" of it and sell them for a fraction of the price! So a $100.00 Model of King Kong suddenly cost you only $20.00! BUT sometimes this savings resulted in the unknowing Buyer recciving TWO LEFT ARMS OR NO KIT AT ALL!!Okay so that being said,My problem with this "Star Trek Orginal Boxed Set" is Well Take a look at this link to my/our winning Bid
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:12&Item=150130921579
Well in case that doesn't work for you allow me to explain my fear; Ya' see in EVERY other Version I can find online or in the store Each Season of the Original Treks come in a Plastic Case (Gold,Blue or Red) Shaped kinda like the old Tricorders. On this Deal my wife got (Which I haven't reccived yet) the Seller (who is in the USA) states that this is "All Three Seasons 22 Discs Packed in a "Chosen Collection Box" Plays in All Regions" Anyhoo,This set is costing us a Hundred Bucks and after she showed me the Deal I was a little leary cause I saw no picture of the Item the only picture the guy does have is of a Starship (Not even from the right series but from the Trek Movies!)

I went ahead and tried to put links to the ONLY other sites I saw online that have these Strange versions of the DVDs I would really appricate any feedback you could give me And Oh,BTW the Seller has a 98% rating on eBay But of that he has 20 complaints going back to 2004 saying that Some people got their DVDs BUT "Shipping Took Forever" (ALOT of that one! lol) and/or "Reccived DVD's They Were Obvious Burned Off Someones Computer!") So I'm a lil' Worried. Hey thanks for your help. ONE LAST THING, Here Is The Way The Set USUALLY LOOKS!

spartanstew 06-12-2007, 01:34 PM They're bootlegs.
LONFAN 06-12-2007, 01:51 PM WOW Thanks, It wouldn't be too bad if they look okay. I know it's ethicicly (moraly) wrong but we didn't know this was a bootleg set. I keep hoping well maybe it's just the Original set the guy used to make the Bootlegs! lol Well I'll keep my fingers crossed just in case and I'll let ya' know. BTW anyone else ever get taken on something like this?
LONFAN
SilentWarrior 06-12-2007, 01:51 PM I hope that for your sake they are the originals John. I was just looking through the feedback myself. A lot of people have mentioned that they have received the products as described. On another note I found a neutral feedback here (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller&userid=true_deals&iid=150130921579&de=off&items=25&page=4), where the buyer was able to get a refund because the product was different to the picture displayed. If they are not the ones you are after contact the seller, from looking at the feedback he seems quite reasonable...
LONFAN 06-12-2007, 02:03 PM Hey thanks, I wonder what this means:
Rating mutually withdrawn
Buyer and seller mutually agreed to withdraw feedback for this item
And if you look farther in to the Feedback Section there is a few of these:
Beware!!! I llegal Burned DVD's. Do NOT do Business with May-17-06 16:09
-- (#9106302135) --
Beware!!! Illegal DVDs, Fail to return money when promised.
I hate not knowing lol but thanks for the Good words
J0nn0 06-12-2007, 09:30 PM i had a mutually agreed thingy, don't think it's much to worry about. Both of you agree to disagree i think, and the bad feedback is removed by mutual agreement.
The one i had was for a CIS for my Epson.I was pissed that the seller hadn't replied to a few e-mails i sent, so i dissed him in the feedback, he did the same back to me.He got back to me explaining delays due to the weekend etc,so we agreed to remove the bad feedback.
This is NOT a bootleg or copy, but is an officially authorized internationally manufatured version. This set is comparable to the US release, but at a fraction of the cost! I think you'd have a good case if they do turn out to be copies, with stuff like that written as the description, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
LONFAN 06-13-2007, 03:27 AM J0nn0, To be honest that Quote you pulled up is from one of the other sites selling this strange packaging. The guy we bought from didn't even say all that What my guy sez is It's an "International Boxed set" I'm now certin it's gonna be a Bootleg though cause a lil' digging on the Google got me to a Discussion on eBay (Ironic lol) Anyhoo I don't have the link BUT some guy was asking the almost identical Question as me and Regarding the ST "Chosen Collection" Boxed Set. He says he contacted some Distributers and found there was NO Asian Releases of ANY Trek DVD Sets But ya' know I hate to say it but as long as they work I'll be happy. See I'm not one of those Technical Guys I really never have understood what 5.1 Dolby Sound is as opposed to 2.0,Hell I felt like I'd become an expert when I figured out that Wide Screen was the way to go! :biglaugh: Lemmie be honest we had this friend in CT. She and her Husband had some kind of Device that could Burn ANY kind of Factory DVD and in most cases could even give me the Extra Features as well I have no idea what this thing was but if these Trek Discs are copied like these in this kind of Quality then I'll be more then happy! Most of the Responses I was reading by people who bought these "Bootlegs" of Star Trek or Buffy said the Picture was Fine but the Packaging was Subpar and of course they had no Resale Value. well I Ain't Plannin' on ever tryin' to resell so for my own enjoyment these will be okay. Now Let's get back to a DVD's Sound Options lol I have a beautiful 37 inch Screen and a Nice Sony CD/Cassette/Tuner hooked up to it the DVD Player. Now the DVD Player is a Duo Unit from Mal-Wart Yeah I've herd the Horror Stories of the Duo Unit (DVD/VHS) If One Breaks... But for my needs It worked out. My needs are I go to the Library Rent Six Discs at a time and then I record them to VHS Yeah I Know this too is Stupid "Why Would I want to go backwards?(quality wise?) Well my answer is Simply we're Broke!lol and this way I still have all the Doctor Who Episodes for the price of a 10 Pack of Blank Tape (About $8.00)and in SLP Speed I can get a bunch of episodes on one Cassette There is a down side of course,That is not many Studios let ya' do this it's hit or miss really,I mean I've found that Any Recent Warner Bros. DVD Rec fine (such as Goodnight and Goodluck) but older Titles such as Leathal Weapon have the old Block that causes the Picture to go real Dark then back to normal But MGM ALWAYS work!lol I will often Record the film Once normal then again with the Commentary if I want it lol I guess it sounds kinda anal but it's just a fun hobby. The only thing is it seems the films I like the most are all on the Companies I can't Record!(Universal noway,Miramax Nope,Some NewLine work some don't, I have no Idea why lol Guess that's my punishment lol Well So That's my story and Etc Etc OH BTW Paramount Pictures Used to let you record Tape To Tape but their DVDs are locked up Tighter then Paris Hilton is right now!:D

I have the same machine. It's my desktop computer. I'm sure the discs will be fine, bootlegs or not. When I make copies of my DVD's, you can't tell the difference even on my 126" screen. 5.1, dts, features, etc. ..... it's all there if I want it.
LONFAN 06-14-2007, 01:29 PM Of Course I wanna ask you a question on this I Checked out Ghost Rider from the Library yesterday and the Mrs. Tried to Burn it on Disc for me We just got a new Windows Vista PC (Supposed to be the most up to date) Anyhoo the movie is now in here but when we try to put it on a Philips DVD+R it sez The Movie is too Big.Now I used to download Films from File Sharing Sites Like Morphus But those would usually be in Two (or more) Parts,So what do we need to do to get this on a Disc? (Or to have enough room) Thanks
Heck, I think I'll make this a Seperate Thred so others might see it.
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST
JOHN
LONFAN 06-14-2007, 02:55 PM For those of you that have been following the "Saga Of The Knock Off Star Trek Set"
I got them Yesterday afternoon and I knew Immeditly they were Bootlegs the first sign was on the outer box (Well the Box it self was unlike ANY of the legit ones) But The cast List on the box includes Mr. "Ames Dohan" lol then at the bottom of the Back there is a Copy of a Real Paramount Logo and legal info (copyright stuff) that States "Widescreen Ratio and original date 1982!! and (I quote) " ** denotes Winner Best Supporting Actor Academey Award" So I gotta go to Imdb and see who that would be lol
Then Inside the Case (Which I actually like this Box better than the Factory ones) Anyhoo Inside is a Cut out for a Little Hardback Booklet that holds the 22 Discs,Now on the "Real" DVDs,You get Labels that have each main Cast Member (Take a look at this link)
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-Complete-Seasons/dp/B0002JJBZY/ref=sr_1_1/104-9356381-8519145?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1181828760&sr=1-1
But Mine instead have a Well done but "illogical" lol Label that uses the "Romulan" Bird Of Prey Logo from "Star Trek:Nemesis a Logo that wasn't created til 38 Years after the Original Series first ran!:biglaugh: BUT Again They all Work so far and the look great and the Special features are there So I'm not complaining. Funny though if you look again at that link to Amazon I just provided above, You'll see in the Photos of the Discs themselves there is also a picture of the "Collectors Chosen Set" Case,I think this is odd cause I thought Amazon Didn't have anything to do with Bootlegs? Oh well maybe they didn't even know? So in Summary I'm Happy with the set thanks for the Advice.

RAINMAN 06-17-2007, 11:45 PM no matter if they work or not this guys is profiting of piracy and that is wrong. Report him to the authorities, Ebay and get your credit card company to reverse charges.
I'll sell you any movie you want for 10$, ya its pirated, would you take me up on my offer? Probably not so why accept what this guy scammed you on.

ulookingatme 06-18-2007, 02:28 PM Like Rainaman says contact ebay and credit card company, also paypal if you used themn to pay there very good at dealing with these things..............goodluck :)
RAINMAN 06-18-2007, 11:20 PM and either way, you still get the disks :D
db.alpha 06-09-2008, 06:50 PM dealsworld.net is a scam so I give it a very negative review. I tried to cancel an order minutes after the transaction and i have not heard from them. Now, I'm trying to contest it with my credit card company. The potential savings is not worth it.
tightline_69 06-10-2008, 06:00 AM I agree with both ULAM and Rainman Contact who ever you need to and report this person
thorn 06-15-2008, 11:07 AM A friend of a friend of mine also sells bootlegs. But not for this horrendous prices. You paid 100USD for 22 Discs? If he's getting them from somewhere in Asia, he pays about 1 Dollar per DVD. It's not the piracy itself I would condemn as long as you know what you're buying, but this guy's cheating people and making them pay nearly the same price as for originals. The person I know on the other hand sells them for 2USD each to finance his studying and he surely doesn't tell people that what they're getting is legit.
ambientflyer 06-25-2008, 06:04 PM Bootlegs? There is only a couple reasons I see for buying a "bootleg".
1. The movie or show is not available
2. For some reason that version is just really super cool. This happens sometimes. But its very rare.
I really don't see a reason to purchase bootlegs unless something is not available. The quality is usually shoody and rarely is as good as an officially released disc.
